Intimate Christmas atmosphere at the Tiendschuur
Special ceramic Christmas exhibition from 4 December to 6 January 2019
During the Christmas season, part of the museum is transformed into an intimate Christmas atmosphere with Nativity Sets from various collections. The top piece in this presentation is the 3-metre long ceramic nativity set by Jac Bongaerts. This set is placed in a Limburg landscape, with well-known Tegelen figures from Bongaerts’ youth such as the fishmonger, the charcoal collector and the organ grinder moving through the streets.
Jac Bongaerts worked on this nativity set for more than 400 hours and it weighs well over 100 kilos. It is one of the last projects Jac Bongaerts made before he died in 1997. In addition, footage is shown in which Jac Bongaerts is actually making the set.
On Boxing Day, we are open from 11:00-17:00.
