Lei Hannen: He has a background as a chemist and likes photography and in this way developed a perfect eye for detail. He learnt pot throwing, glazing and firing techniques with various artists, among others, with Joop Crompvoets. He developed his ceramics skills further as a self-taught artist. He regularly gives ceramics courses and workshops at other locations. At the Tiendschuur, he already gave workshops and demonstrations before, including raku-firing and construction techniques. His work is regularly on show at home and abroad.
Imants Ancans: He taught ceramics techniques at art school, heading the ceramics department of the technical school in Latvia. He has been living in the Netherlands now for 7 years and has mastered the language more than sufficiently to be able to teach the subjects here as well. He studied ceramics, glass and kiln building techniques at the Riga art school in Latvia. He has taken a PhD in raku techniques and the history of art. His work has been purchased by collectors from Europe, the US and Afghanistan. He regularly exhibits in the Netherlands and has been a member of the Limburg ceramic circle since 2016. He regularly gives pot throwing demonstrations at the Tiendschuur.
Sigrid Verdonschot, started working with clay more than 15 years ago. First in a studio in Belgium and for 5 years in her own studio Maakplaats de Steenuil in Panningen. She is studying ceramics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Arendonk and is currently graduating. Her teaching style is characterized by giving people support, help and advice where desired. In addition, the students are stimulated in a casual way to develop further. This keeps the challenge present, while the lessons take place in a pleasant and friendly atmosphere.
Frans Verdonschot, studied hydrology and water management and now works at the Limburg water board. Since May 2020 he works 50% and has more time for ceramics. He has been working with clay for over 10 years and in particular with throwing on the potters wheel. He started on the kick wheel but now he replaced it for the electric wheel. He has followed many intensive courses pottery throwing with Joop Crompvoets, but also had courses from Katrin Köning. He also followed several courses glazing, including the courses with Hein Severijns. Frans also works in his own workshop, Maakplaats de Steenuil, supervising students for handbuilding, pot throwing and RAKU firing. He is currently studying ceramics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Arendonk, 3rd year. His goal is to convey the technique and possibilities of throwing on the wheel to students in a pleasant atmosphere.
About 30 years ago, Edith Tergau was captivated by the clay during her education at the teacher training (drawing-craft) and art academy Maastricht (sculpture).
She has her own studio since 2007. There she teaches students and gives Raku workshops. With her own work in hand building technique, she participates several times a year in international ceramics fairs and exhibits in galleries and museums.
Edith thinks it is important to keep abreast of techniques and broadens her horizons through workshops with various ceramists such as Joop Crompvoets, Petra Bittl and Heide Nonnenmacher.
Edith guides everyone on their own path, level and pace with advice, motivation and support.
Edith is a member of the Dutch Department of Ceramics and Ceramics Circle Limburg.
