Niek Hoogland’s work and the Tegelen-Lower Rhine slib decorated pottery tradition

26 May | 14:00 - 16:00

Niek Hoogland, potter in Tegelen

Niek makes sludge-decorated pottery, a working method that flourished in Tegelen and the nearby Lower Rhine region in the 17th century.
A pottery tradition that focuses on a local/regional market and uses locally available materials.

Without feeling indebted to it, Niek uses this tradition as inspiration for his work. He mostly works with locally available pottery clay, which he excavates and prepares himself.
This exhibition is on the occasion of Niek’s 40th anniversary as a Tegel potter.

Sunday 28 April, 2pm, Niek Hoogland will give a lecture on Lower Rhenish sludge decorated pottery.

Reservations are required.
